KÖNIGIN VIKTORIABERG¹, Hochheim am Main | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® KÖNIGIN VICTORIABERG follows the Main river between Hochheim and Flörsheim in Rheingau. The vineyard faces south and lies between 100 and 110 metres a.s.l. The approximately 100 metres wide vineyard rises at a 15 to 20 % gradient to the sand path above it. The soil is comprised of alluvial sediment over limestone. Because it is at the foot of an escarpment, it is shielded from the cold north wine. The microclimate on the Main River hinders the collection of cold air pockets. Riesling is cultivated here. History: The English Queen Victoria visited Hochheim with her husband Prince Albert in 1845. On their tour, they were invited to a wine tasting in the “best and most beautiful” vineyard of the village. Five years later, the queen granted permission for the vineyard to be named after her. A monument dedicated to the queen was unveiled in the vineyard in 1854.
