IM SONNENSCHEIN-GANZ HORN*, Siebeldingen | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® GANZ HORN is located within the Sonnenschein vineyard and can be differentiated through its geologically young soil. While the Sonnenschein exhibits soil that stems from the Germanic Trias 220 million years ago (which the Rhine has brought from the depths to the surface), the soil of the GL GANZ HORN is only 1 million years old and is gravel with variegated sandstone, pebbles, loam, and sand. This was transported here during and after the ice ages and deposited on the slopes of the Queich Valley. These well-drained soils are well suited for Riesling, the predominant grape planted here. The vineyard lies between 160 and 180 metres a.s.l. and has a slope gradient of 5 to 20 percent. History: All vineyard parcel names from the old “Siebeldinger Ganshorn” became obsolete with the wine laws of 1971 when the entire site became named “Im Sonnenschein”.
