The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® KALMIT is located on the south facing slope of the 127-metre high Kleine Kalmit. The old name for Kalmit was “mons calvus” which means “bald mountain”. The GL KALMIT lies within the 112-hectare Kalmit vineyard. The soil is tertiary limestone, marl, loess, and loam slope wash covered with a rather shallow layer of humus. The parcel drops from the peak of the Kleine Kalmit at nearly 250 meters a.s.l. down to 240 metres. The site is planted predominantly with Riesling, Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc) and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir).
