HERMANNSBERG, Niederhausen | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

Extreme variations between soils – from volcanic to mudstone slate - in sites less than 200 metres apart is what characterizes the vineyards of Niederhausen. Mudstone slate determines the foundation of the VDP.GROSSEN LAGE® HERMANNSBERG, but melaphyre is also present, which stems from gravelling that took place there 100 years ago. This vineyard has a 5 - 40 % slope gradient that faces south and is directly adjacent to the VDP.Wine Estate Gut Hermannsberg. It is well protected in the Nahe Valley and enjoys cool air circulation at 130 to 160 metres a.s.l. The proximity of the Nahe River intensifies the site’s solar radiation through reflection of sunlight. The site is predestined for the production of ice wine. History: The name of this site could come from Hermes, the patron of all messengers and travellers.
