JOSEPHSHÖFER | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®, Graach | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The south facing 4-hectare VDP.GROSSE LAGE® JOSEPHSHÖFER lies between the two large vineyards Graacher Domprobst and Wehlener Sonnenuhr. The very steep site climbs from 110 to 165 metres a.s.l. at a 44 percent gradient. The soil is comprised of deep, weathered Devon slate debris and abundant rocks, particularly in the higher areas. At the foot of the slope, more fine earth is present. The site has good available water capacity. The microclimate of the GL JOSEPHSHÖFER is determined by the rapid warming properties of the soil and the wind-protected position. History: The site is named after the monastery that once owned it. This is also now the name of the hamlet Hofsiedlung Josephshof, previously called Merteshof. The site was documented as the monastery vineyard in 1100.
