HEYDENREICH³, Schweigen-Rechtenbach | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

Quite a unique soil structure distinguishes the VDP.GROSSE LAGE® STROHLENBERG HEYDENREICH. Like the somewhat more well-known VDP.GROSSE LAGE® SANKT PAUL that lies below it, the soil is comprised of pure limestone that is covered with a 20 to 50 centimetre deep layer of loose dirt. The water storage capacity is very good. The steep south-facing slope is also protected in a valley that allows it to store plenty of warmth during the day that continues to radiate in the evening hours. Cool breezes from the forest and the neighbouring Lauer Valley provide refreshing aeration. Also unusual for the GL HEYDENREICH is that it is not located in Germany, but rather in France. It is part of the Sonnenberg vineyard that straddles the border of the two countries. History: The vineyards on the border between Schweigen in Germany and Wissembourg in France were once called “Wechsellagen” (alternating sites) because they altered their nationality repeatedly throughout history. As this plot is located in France, German wine estates are not allowed to use the vineyards name on the label.
