DELLCHEN, Norheim | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® DELLCHEN is a natural beauty. The steep dry stone terraces of this GL cling to an extremely steep south-facing slope with up to 70 % gradient. The soils are predominantly porphyry and slate, but also gravelly loam, which provides good water availability. The abundance of rock and the dry stone walls store warmth and energy during the day and release it into the vines at night. This provides grapes a longer ripening period in which they achieve high physiological ripeness. The site lies at 140 to 200 metres a.s.l. History: The site was long neglected due to its steepness. The name stems from a small convex trough in the meagre cliff face, which is called a “Dellchen” in colloquial German.
