SCHLOSS WESTERHAUS, Ingelheim | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® SCHLOSS WESTERHAUS is a sloped site located below the eponymous castle. While hugging the Westerberg, it faces east to northeast and is protected from cold west winds. The 12.6 hectares of vine rows lay at 160 to 200 metres a.s.l., which protects from autumn fog banks that collect in the Selz Valley at the foot of the slope. The soil is comprised mostly of meagre limestone and calcareous marl, but stony loam and loamy clay are also found. SCHLOSS WESTERHAUS GL is planted predominantly with Riesling. History: The first documented mention of the vineyard stems from the year 1408.
