AM LUMPEN 1655® , Escherndorf | VDP.GROSSE LAGE®

The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® AM LUMPEN 1655 is the prime parcel of the Eschendorfer Lump vineyard. The Lump opens toward the broad Main Valley like an amphitheatre. The GL within this vineyard is a steep slope with a 60 percent gradient and south exposition. This position protects the site from cold north winds in the winter and captures the warmth and light in the summer. The Main River also serves to mirror additional light into the vines. The soil is predominantly shell limestone. The slow moving river and the deep moist soils contribute to air humidity and promote the devlopment of noble rot. These are ideal conditions for botrytized sweet wines. History: “Am Lumpen” was first mentioned in a goods and regulations description dating 1655. This lends today’s demarcated VDP.GROSSE LAGE its name.
