Dr. Carl von Schubert and his son Maximin are the 5th and 6th generations respectively to lead this traditional estate, which has been in the family’s possession since 1882. But the history at Maximin Grünhaus stretches back much further, with the first documented mention in 966. Formerly part of the rural property of Trier's Sankt Maximin Abbey, Schloss Grünhaus is and remains the seat of the estate. The outstanding reputation of Maximin Grünhäuser wines is rooted in its monopole sites in the Ruwer Valley that are as famous as they are fabulous: Abtsberg, Herrenberg and Bruderberg. The slate soils, ideal climate and topography, a winegrowing philosophy rooted in harmony with nature and gentle processing techniques in the cellar produce deep, complex and highly cellarable wines, primarily from Riesling. In the past ten years, the estate has also added some Weißburgunder and Spätburgunder to its plantings.
