Bercher

The history of the Bercher family can be traced back to 1457. Originally residents of Switzerland, they moved to the Kaiserstuhl district of Baden after the Thirty Years’ War. For more than 300 years, the picturesque wine village of Burkheim has been home to this family with a long tradition of wine-growing. In 1756, Franz Michael Bercher built the manor house that has been owned by the family ever since, and has remained the Bercher estate’s headquarters to this day. The goal of the house is to produce wines with character and soul: wines that reflect the distinctive characteristics of their appellation of origin, its soils, and its microclimate. In the Kaiserstuhl, the warmest corner of Germany, vines are cultivated in excellent sites consisting of mineral-rich, chalky loess on top of volcanic subsoils.
