Portrait of Steffen Christmann
A half-timbered building overgrown with vines, a wrought-iron sign: Steffen Christmann's winery could adorn any tourism brochure. But behind the traditional walls, something new has been made. A lawyer by profession and still a partner in a law firm, the 42-year-old vintner turned the family business into one of Germany's top wineries. His generation wants to revolutionize German wine. Now others want to profit from his ideas and success. The VDP, an organization of top German wineries, has elected Christmann its new president. A report by Kerstin Schweitzer.
